27 July 2010 Tuesday Bible study.

James 3:7-10, 7 This is scary: You can tame a tiger, 8 but you can't tame a tongue — it's never been done. The tongue runs wild, a wanton killer. 9 With our tongues we bless God our Father; with the same tongues we curse the very men and women he made in his image. 10 Curses and blessings out of the same mouth! My friends this can’t go on. (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)

James 3:7-10, 7 For brute nature under all its forms--beasts and birds, reptiles and fishes--can be subjected and kept in subjection by human nature. 8 But the tongue no man or woman is able to tame. It is an ever-busy mischief, and is full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who are made in God's likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth there proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, this ought not to be. (Weymouth NT)

It is amazing how many people think that whichever words that they may use are of no consequence or importance. And their justification for this is that they say that God knows their heart. Can you really see and comprehend how absurd that is?

Didn’t Jesus Christ say that by your words you are justified, or by your words you are condemned; is there a grey area there? Is any part of Jesus Christ statement that is not clear and precise?

Matt 12:36-37, 36 Let me tell you something: Every one of these careless words is going to come back to haunt you. There will be a time of Reckoning. Words are powerful; take them seriously. 37 Words can be your salvation. Words can also be your damnation." (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. Matt 12:36-37, 36 But I tell you that for every careless word that men shall speak they will be held accountable on the day of Judgment. 37 For each of you by his words shall be justified, or by his words shall be condemned." (Weymouth NT)

Each person is accountable for every word that they put forth, regardless of whether they believe it or not. Just as gravity will work whether a person believes it or not, likewise the principles that God’s put forth regarding the importance of our words, as well as the power that words contain, is constant, and will work and be held accountable, whether you believe it or not, just the same as gravity.

Have you ever wondered why James spends a whole chapter talking about the mouth, and the importance of words?
