Speed bumps!
Part 3
V24 n29
For the last few issues, we have been talking about speed bumps, their meaning and their purpose. Even before you were aware or cognizant of the speed bump, and it’s meaning and purpose, it was still there. It’s purpose and meaning has not changed at all, it has been constant. It is your understanding that has changed.
A speed bump is but one thing that we can look at, that one chooses to be ignorant of within their life. How many other things are there that one chooses to ignore each day? And if a person does this in and with their everyday life, how many things are there in ones spiritual walk that they treat the same way as that speed bump?
When a person ignores a speed bump, it awakens the senses by an abrupt or sudden shaking of the vehicle, and the occupants within. This happens because one failed to comply with the rules that the speed bump are there to enforce. One can try to ignore the speed bump, and harden their resolve against it, but the end result will be that the speed bump will still carry out and enforce it’s intended purpose.
Psalms 119:89-92, 89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. 90 Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth. 91 They continue this day according to thine ordinances: for all are thy servants. 92 Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction. KJV
God’s Word is forever settled in
heaven! God’s plan and purpose have been in place since before the foundation
of the world. It is there, it is settled, and it will not change. God’s Word is
kind of like that speed bump, though you may choose to ignore it, it will still
be there, and His purpose and plan will be carried out. It is all a matter of whether
you choose to be with Him, or against Him.
[For
ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.] Thy purposes are all settled
above, and they shall all be fulfilled below.
Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.
[Thy faithfulness] That which binds
thee to accomplish the promise made. And this shall be, not for an age
merely, but from generation to generation; for thy promises refer to the whole
duration of time.
[Thou hast established the earth] Thou
hast given it its appointed place in the system, and there it abideth. (from Adam Clarke
Commentary)
God’s law, His plan and purpose remains in effect, regardless of what you may think of it. Unless His law of faith is the delight of your heart, one will perish. How will you respond to the speed bumps that cross your path in life this day? Will they be a delight to you?
As Paul tells us, that he wanted to know Him, and the power of His resurrection. Christ is the power and wisdom of God. Any time one forgets or neglects Christ, they will begin to stray from that strait and narrow path. As one begins to stray, they will hit speed bumps warning them that they are not on the way which they should be traveling. One can hear His warnings and alter their course, or they can continue to hit the speed bumps. Eventually, one will harden their heart enough, that they will only grumble and complain at the speed bumps.
There are many ways in which God tries to speak with His children each day. Thus why it is imperative that one learns to hear His voice, and ignore the voice of a stranger. For it is only as one knows His voice, that they will take heed to the counsel which Father is giving to them.
What reaction will you have today, to any speed bumps in life that you may encounter?
That you may know Him,
In the service of Jesus Christ.
